Dedicated to lord Shiva and located on hilltop at around 7500 ft.
Named after one of the characters of Mahabharat Bheem, it is the largest lake in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
Known for seven lakes but only two lakes namely Ram and Laxman lakes exist at present.
Named after the Naini lake (3620 m) discovered by an English businessman Mr. P. Baron in 1841. Naini lake is surrounded by seven peaks namely Naina peak (2610m), Kilburry (2510 m), Dorothy seat or Tiffin top (2290 m), Snow view (2290m), Camel back and Deopatta (2535m) and Laria kantha (2481m).
Approximately 345 kms northeast of New Delhi in Kumaon Himalayas lies Mukteshwar,45 minutes’ drive from Nainital. Mixed forests dominated by thick ban-oak, pine and cedar cover most of the area and surrounding hills. A large part of landscape is characterized by dense vegetation. Numerous perennial creeks and streams criss cross the area. With many forests and countless trekking trails, the area is also known to have a huge number of species of birds, making it a paradise for bird watchers. One can spot wood peckers, mynahs, pipits, red and jungle-fowls, Indian peafowl, and blue whistling thrushes and more. Pangot, which is about 45 kms from the town, is known for bird watching. The entire area and its surrounding hills has a record of 1000+ resident Himalayan and migratory bird species,20 species of mammals, over 525 species of butterfly and over 11000 species of moths, beetles, bugs and other insects. The flora covers a wide and diverse range of plants ranging from Bryophytes, orchids, rare climbing plants, ferns, lichens, fungi, medicinal herbs and shrubs.
